Born on March 17, 1962, in Karnal, Haryana, India, she pursued her passion for aerospace engineering despite societal challenges. She earned degrees from Punjab Engineering College, the University of Texas, and the University of Colorado.
Her space career included two missions aboard the Space Shuttle Columbia: STS-87 in 1997 and STS-107 in 2003. Tragically, she lost her life during the Columbia disaster on February 1, 2003, when the shuttle disintegrated upon reentry. Her legacy continues to inspire countless individuals, especially women in STEM fields.
